This is where I will write reviews on the media I have consumed. Most of this will be covering the books I've read, this is a library after all, but some of it will be video games, movies, and other forms of media. No Longer Human This book was amazing! I have never read anything that has given me a stronger existential crisis than Osamu Dazai's No Longer Human. This is a semi-autobiographical report of Dazai's life through the figure of Oba Yozo. He was a highly traumatized figure who was also highly traumatized. The main driver of the book is the protagonist's struggle to understand other people and a strong discomfort around others. Yozo turned to various forms of vice to numb him from his pain, and did not have the strength to tell anyone something they didn't want to hear. He was well loved by those around him, but only because they loved his people-pleasing mask. No one, include his many lovers, were able to see the real person. This book is a difficult read with potentially triggering content. Yozo toys with suicide a number of times during the story, has a few run-ins with sexual assault, and treats women like objects. He is a liar, he goes through a number of drug addictions, and lets his wife be raped by a stranger without intervening. At every level, Yozo was a complete failure of a human. All this being said, it is difficult for me to not relate to Yozo. I would like to think I'm not as problematic, but I can understand the fear of people and the lack of understanding of life. He had a great number of problems in his life, and could not find the strength to overcome them. He just kept staggering through life in the least aware way possible. His entire existance is pitiable, but he is incredibly difficult to sympathize with because of how terrible his choices were.
